Contentment

This one’s a tough nut to crack …
But for once, let’s try and pause the judgmental process of discriminating between good and bad
and let’s be faced with contentment.
It is the calm joy or quiet pleasure we feel when we are in harmony with ourselves and our
surroundings. It is a positive emotional state of having accepted one’s situation, like a milder form of
happiness. But unlike happiness, it is absolutely independent of external circumstances. It’s deciding
what you have is enough.
While for some of us, it could mean lack of anxiety, a whole lot of us, who believe in perfection,
it’s extremely hard to reach. Especially if eternal bliss or heaven is our ultimate goal, it can often get
contrasted with eternal dissatisfaction. We must understand that to cultivate contentment in our
lives, our surroundings do not have to be perfect.
True contentment is the power of getting out of any situation all that there is in it. It surely is
arduous and rare but worth the effort as it often evokes pleasant, snug images.
Contentment and gratitude are heavily intertwined. Let’s try trading off envy and sense of
scarcity for generosity and abundance. It isn’t something to be achieved, it’s a process, an attitude to
be adopted.
“Acknowledging the good you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance.” -
Eckhart Tolle
